January 3, 2020 Volume 43 Issue 15 | This photo is of a group of Sommerfeld Mennonites visiting in Rosenbach, near present day Winkler, Manitoba in 1919. Back row (left to right): Frank Enns (1844-1933), Isaac Wiens (1842-1920), Rev. William Friesen (1865-1936) and then 5 unknown young girls. Front row (left to right): Johann Braun (1868-1942), Maria Braun (nee Bergman (1887-1919), Katharina Friesen (nee Braun 1871-1941), Katharina Wiens (nee Esau 1849-1940), Elizabeth Enns (nee Esau (1844-1927), woman on far right not identified. Getting together and sharing life was a key ingredient to community life and made easier when people lived in villages rather than scattered across the prairies. A few years before she died, Cornelia Stoesz, granddaughter of Rev. William Friesen provided the above identification. Are there photos in your collection an older family member can help identify?
