Herrenhut, Saxon, Germany (p. 18, 19)
The Moravian Brethren Church came into being in
the 1720’s when Count
Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf 1700-1760 a pietist gave refuge to
persecuted
Hussites from Moravia and Bohemia. They built the village of Herrenhut as an
administrative centre. They
promoted zealous mission work and consequently spread to other parts of
the
world. Where possible they gave a helping hand to the existing
Christian
Church.
During the
1780’s when the Hutterites
from Vishenka tried to rescue their imprisoned brethren in Moravia and Slovakia the Moravian
Brethren gave them a
helping hand.
When the Mennonites
in
Brenkenhoffs-walde needed help the neighbouring Moravians came to their
aid.
