Mennonite Settlements
in Pennsylvania and Ontario (p.
182)
The first group of Mennonites came to America
in 1683. They came from Krefeld, Germany
and settled in Germantown, Pennsylvania.
In 1702 a group of Mennonites from the Palatinate
started the Shippack Colony and in 1710 another group from the same general
area in Germany
started the Pequea Colony. During the years 1735 to 1755 Amish Mennonites from Alsace
settled the Northkill Colony.
After the American Revolution (1776 - 1783) many Mennonites
in Pennsylvania immigrated to Ontario.
The Mennonites in Ontario were
joined later by Amish groups coming directly from Alsace-Lorraine and Bavaria.
