Juschanlee (p. 72)
Johann Cornies 1789 – 1846 leased
a large parcel of land on the south side of the Juschanlee River
in 1830 or 1831. By 1836 his holdings had increased to more than 8000 acres. Cornies used this land to develop a model farm which he
named Juschanlee (Yushanlee).
The estate had vast vegetable gardens, orchards, and man-made forests. He also
raised large herds of sheep and cattle. The huge animal barns were equipped
with an innovative gravity-fed watering system.
